Some of the footage used in my video appeared too confusing/distracting when viewed in sequence. This was often for a number of reasons but predominantly it was because the framing may have included too much surrounding scenery or the background was really busy. By creating a vignette I could effectively darken areas of distraction and focus the viewers attention on the center point.
This effect was used on the credit shot as the text was centered and around the main subject of the shot, the Empire State Building, there was a moderate amount of foliage that was slightly distracting. The opacity of the vignette is very low so it is almost undetectable. Some may regard this as unimportant if it has been done to such a minimal level however it does benefit the shot as the attention is more focused on the information in the center of the frame rather than the scene around it.
